Springfield, Stark, Lamberton all take early lead in TEL playoffs Friday night

Springfield 9, Searles 4

SEARLES — In Game 1 of a best-of-three Tomahawk East League amatuer baseball playoff series, the Springfield Tigers piled up 15 hits to take down the Searles Grizzlies 9-4 on Friday night.

Jacob Poehler led the Tigers’ attack with a 5-for-5 night at the plate, an RBI and two runs scored. Isaac Fink, Ryan Sturm, Pat Moriarty and Brandon Wilhelmi all each had two hits for Springfield, with Fink and Sturm adding an RBI.

Wilhelmi got the win in relief of Justin Haugo, pitching 2 1/3 innings and allowing one hit for no runs while striking out four. Haugo pitched 6 2/3 innings and struck out 11 while giving up three earned runs on six hits and four walks.

For Searles, Craig Fischer was 2 for 4 with a a homer and a run scored, while David Hatle added a homer and a pair of RBIs. Nick Dewanz took the loss for Searles in 8 2/3 innings, giving up 14 hits and two walks for eight runs, with only one earned run. He also struck out 12.

Stark 5, Leavenworth 0

STARK — The Stark Longhorns shut out the Leavenworth Orioles 5-0 on Friday night in the first game of a three-game Tomahawk East League amateur baseball playoff series.

Jon Kopacek got the complete-game win for Stark, giving up nine hits and a walk for no runs with three strikeouts.

Dylan Hillesheim took the loss for Leavenworth in eight innings, giving up 11 hits and three walks for five earned runs while striking out four.

Adam Sellner, Brandon Helget and Dusty Mangen each had two hits for Stark, with Mangen driving in a run and Brandon Helget homering and scoring two runs. Jake Mangen also added a hit and two RBIs for Stark.

For the Orioles, Billy Cook, Matt Helget and Zack Mickelson each had two hits.

Lamberton 4, Essig 1

LAMBERTON — The Lamberton Long Sox got past the Essig Bluejays 4-1 on Friday night in the first game of a three-game Tomahawk East League amateur baseball playoff series.

Johnny Pistulka got the win in eight innings for Lamberton, giving up four hits and two walks for one earned run with 12 strikeouts. Nick Altermatt got the save in one inning of work for the Long Sox, striking out the side in the ninth.

Jay Helget took the loss for Essig in three innings of work, giving up five hits and a walk for four earned runs with a strikeout.

For Lamberton at the plate, Neil Eicthen was 4 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Colby Pack was 3 for 4 with an RBI. Austin Irlbeck tripled and scored a run for Lamberton.

Jay Helget, Kyle Helget, Jordan Guggisberg and Erich Prokosch each added one of Essig’s four hits in the game, with Guggisberg’s hit being a double.
