Chaska opens with win over Junior Legion

NEW ULM — Chaska jumped to an 8-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings before the New Ulm Junior Legion scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 8-5.

But Chaska scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to come away with an 11-5 win over New Ulm in the Junior Upper Midwest Classic.

Ethan Stade took the loss for New Ulm. He went 2 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on three hits.

Jaiden Mollett got the win for Chaska. He held New Ulm without a hit for 3 1/3 innings before Tony Geiger reached on an infield single.

It would also be the inning when New Ulm scored all of its runs on two hits and six walks. The big blow for New Ulm in that inning was a two-run single off of the bat of Hunter Sehr. Isaiah Miller had the other hit for New Um in the sixth inning.

Ben Carter led Chaska with three hits with Quincy Foss, Josh Baugham and Tommy Hanson each collecting two hits as Chaska outhit the Junior Legion 11-3.

New Um plays on Friday when it plays Mankato Maroon at 1:30 p.m. and then Osseo at 6:30 p.m. Both games are at Mueller Park.
