New Ulm Gold goes perfect on Saturday

ST. CLOUD — New Ulm Legion Gold picked up a pair of wins on Saturday in the St. Cloud Chutes legion baseball tournament, defeating Maple Grove 7-2 and Andover 12-5.

Braden Zimmerman got the complete-game win for Gold in the first game of the day, giving up no earned runs on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Colten Schaefer led the Gold bats with a 2-for-3 game and two RBIs, while Josh Seidl went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Hunter Ranweiler went 2 for 2 with two runs scored. Gold outhit Maple Grove 8-4.

In Game 2, Nolan Drill earned the win for Gold in 5 1/3 innings of work, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Gold was led at the plate by Ranweiler, who was 4 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Noah Hauge was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Also for Gold against Andover, Chris Knowles, Zimmerman and Seidl each added two hits apiece, with Seidl and Zimmerman scoring three runs each. Gold outhit Andover 16-13.

Gold finished the tournament 3-1 and next play at 7:30 p.m. on Monday against Fairmont at Mueller Park.
