18s defeat Howard Lake-W-W
NEW ULM — The New Ulm 18-U softball team picked a win in its only game of the day on Saturday and the day ended early as rain washed out New Ulm’s second game of the afternoon. The second game was determined by coin toss and New Ulm lost the coin toss.
New Ulm earned the No. 6 seed in bracket play and will play No. 3 seed St. Peter at 11 a.m. on Sunday at New Ulm High School.
In the first game, New Ulm defeated Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 6-3 in five innings.
Morgan Deslauriers earned the win for New Ulm. She struck out six and walked two in five innings. She allowed three runs, none of them were earned.
New Ulm gave Deslauriers some early run support in the first game and she was able to take advantage of that. Alexa Owens went 2 for 3 in the first game with a run scored and Abby Beranek was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Grace Bauer was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a runs scored and Ellie Bute was 1 for 3 with a run scored.
