JORDAN — New Ulm’s Glavine Schugel had a big rebound on Day 2 of the Class AA State Golf Tournament at Ridges at Sand Creek, shooting even par on Wednesday to finish 5 over and tied for fourth overall.

He shot a two-day total of 149.

After shooting a 77 on Day 1 of the meet Tuesday, Schugel said his confidence was lacking. He certainly regained that confidence on Wednesday in the final day of the meet but still thought he could have finished even better.

“It’s cool,” Schugel said of placing fourth. “I hit it pretty well, I couldn’t putt, though. I probably missed like 10 putts within 10 feet that were all pretty makeable.”

Schugel. a junior, will have his senior year ahead to make state and build on his past performances at state, looking for a first-place trophy next year.

“Yeah, that’s kind of everybody’s goal is to win it,” he said. “That would be cool to go out with that for a finish.”

Also for New Ulm, Aiden Guggisberg ended his time at state this year by finishing tied for 23rd after a two-day total of 158. He shot a two-day total of 159 last year at state, which tied him for 48th place.

The individual boys’ champion was Cecil Belisle of Red Wing, finishing 1 under overall.

For the New Ulm girls, seniors Jana Julia Boquet and Abbey Frauenholtz shot an 82 and a 91 on Day 2, respectively. With a two-day total of 170, Boquet finished 23rd overall, while Frauenholtz’s two-day total of 191 ended her final year at state with a tie for 48th place.

Sophia Yoemans of Red Wing was the girls’ individual champion after shooting 6 under overall. Red Wing also took home the girls’ team championship.
