Sleepy Eye blanks Courtland on Sunday

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye blanked Courtland 10-0 in seven innings on Sunday in Tomahawk East League baseball action.

The winning pitcher was Alex Sellner, who pitched seven innings with seven strikeouts and five hits allowed. The Indians were also led at the plate by Sellner, who went 3 for 5 with a double, an RBI and a pair of walks.

Carter Brinkman added an RBI triple for the Indians, while Matt Mielke went 2 for 3 with a double.

Chase Meyer took the loss for the Cubs, pitching 5 1/3 innings and allowing six earned runs on seven hits and five walks. The Cubs were led offensively by Tyler Dittrich, who was 2 for 3.

The Indians moved to 3-3 with the win, while the Cubs dropped to 0-9.

Springfield 10, Essig 2

SPRINGFIELD — Led by a 3-for-4 day at the plate by Jacob Poehler, Springfield downed Essig 10-2 on Sunday in Tomahawk East League baseball action.

Poehler also added three RBIs for Springfield, while Decker Scheffler and Mitchell Leonard each had two hits and two RBIs apiece, with Scheffler adding a homer. Pat Moriarty also added two hits for Springfield.

Shawn Anderson got the win on the mound for Springfield, pitching seven innings and allowing five hits and one earned run with six strikeouts.

For Essig, Andrew Rose was 2 for 3 with a double, while Jay Helget added a triple and an RBI. Eric Scheibel took the loss for Essig in four innings, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits.

Springfield improved to 4-2 with the win, while the Bluejays fell to 3-4.
