MANKATO — BOLD eliminated Springfield from the Section 2A playoffs with a 3-1 win at Franklin Rogers Park

Springfield failed to get the bats hot as the temperatures reached highs during the day. The Warriors effort was assisted by shut down pitching in the first four innings only allowing one Tiger hit.

“Our team battled all year and played very well all season, we are going to miss these seniors but hopefully our younger kids got a taste of what it is like and we can build on this,” Springfield coach Brandon Wihelmi said.

Jordan Sagedahl went the distance from the mound for the Warriors, earning the win. He gave up five hits and one run.

Isaac Fink took the loss. He gave up three runs in six innings and he struck out seven.

Fink connected with a line drive in the first with two outs after the previous two Springfield batters went down swinging.

BOLD broke the scoreless tie with one run in the second inning from three hits. The lone run came after Fink delivered a four-pitch walk with the bases loaded to bring in the run. The Warriors attempted to add to the lead with a squeeze play when Springfield catcher Mason Rummel threw down to third on a missed bunt to get the runner out for the missed opportunity from the Warriors.

BOLD wasn’t done with the threat in the second when a throwing error loaded the bases from the Tigers. Fink was able to neutralize the threat with a fly ball out and escape only giving up the run.

The Warriors struck again in the third starting the inning with singles followed by a sacrificed bunt down in front of Fink to put both runners in scoring position. A walk and a hit by pitch brought in the first run of the inning with a deep fly ball drove in the second run and the 3-0 Warrior lead.

Hunter Mathiowetz connected with a drive in the right field gap to score Leonard from second as the Tigers found the offense against a slowing BOLD pitcher. Mitchell Buerkle added to the effort with a single before Decker Scheffler’s pop out was caught way into right from the Warrior second basemen to end the inning.

“Hunter Mathiowetz was the right guy in the right spot, he gave us a great outing yesterday which I am very proud of,” Wihelmi said. “We knew that his spot would come up and he was the right guy in that spot.”

Fink went 1 for 3 in the ball game, Leonard was also 1 for 3 with a single which became the only run for the Tigers and Mathiowetz was 1 for 2 pinch hitting with an RBI.
