• Schommer kept the Greyhounds alive on Saturday in the Section 2A playoffs as Cathedral defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart . Schommer struck out 12 batters in 5 2/3 innings.

• Schommer began the week with a 12-strikeout performance against Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman last Tuesday in a winner’s bracket game.

Schommer was a big reason why the Greyhounds kept their season alive on Saturday. Cathedral lost to BOLD on Thursday to drop to the elimination bracket and the Greyhounds need to win twice on Tuesday in order to advance to the section championship.

“It appears Mark has turned the corner with his late season performances on the mound,” Cathedral coach Bob Weier said. “After battling injuries early in the season he has found his groove on the mound. Nice to see him perform well and show his competitiveness as a senior — we expect this and we have not been disappointed.”
