MVL girls qualify for state true team meet

MAPLETON — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran girls’ track and field team placed first at the Section 2A True Team meet and will compete at the State True Team event in Stillwater, May 18.

The Chargers finished the event with 779 points, ahead of Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (720.5), Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial-Nicollet (692), Martin County West (623) and Blue Earth Area (603.5).

For the Chargers, the 4×800-meter relay team of Mia Johnson, Jayda Helget, Maggie Fliszar and Naomi Anderson took first in 10 minutes, 27.44 seconds. Mara Weisensel won the 100-meter hurdles with a personal record time (PR) with 16.5 seconds and Abby Nelson won the 1,600-meter run in 5:38.48.

Mia Johnson won the 3,200-meter run in 12:32.33 (PR) and the 4×100-meter relay team took second in 52.36. That team was made up of Lexi Forsburgh, Kendra Lyimo, Anna Schwartz and Hannah Marzinske. Abby Nelson also was second in the discus (96-9) and Marzinske was second in the long jump with a PR of 15-4.

Weisensel finished third in the high jump with a PR of 5-feet and the 4×200-relay team of Schwartz, Kaylee Hunter, Lyimo and Livia Reinarts finished third in 1:56.82.

On the boys’ side, MVL finished fifth overall with 588.5 points. St. Clair/Immanuel Lutheran won the event with 758.5 points, followed by BEA (695), New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva (643), LCWM-Nicollet (619) and MVL.

The MVL 4×100-meter relay team of Zach Helget, Christian Edwards, Sam Muske and Isaac Schmidt finished second with a time of 46.56. Jake Kettner finished second in the high jump with a mark of 5-10 and he was third in the long jump with a mark of 19-3 3/4.

BLHS 12, MVL 2

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran in five innings on Tuesday.

Derek Weisensel took the loss. He went four innings, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 10 hits. He struck out four.

Dylan Maiers earned the win. He pitched five innings and allowed two runs and two hits. He struck out one.

Leyton Brau and Frank Selvey had MVL’s only hits in the game.

Maiers was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs for the Mustangs. Nathan Schultz was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Brock Luthens was 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Braden McColley was 1 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and Kaden Zanoth was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Ben Dornsoer was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
