Josh Koelpin named first team All-UMAC

NEW ULM — Senior Martin Luther College men’s tennis player Josh Koelpin was named First Team All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference for the second time in his career on Tuesday.

Koelpin played atop the MLC line-up throughout this season and came through for the Knights with a 7-9 overall record in No. 1 singles, including a 3-3 record in conference play. In doubles, Koelpin was 7-9 on the season, but teamed with first-year player Jonah Schulz to go 4-2 in No. 1 doubles during UMAC matches. Those wins helped push the Knights into fourth place in the UMAC with a 4-3 conference record.

Koelpin previously received First Team All-UMAC honors as a sophomore in 2017, and finished his four-year career with a record of 23-35 in singles competition.

This is the third major award this year for Koelpin. He was named the male recipient of the UMAC Scholar-Athlete Leadership Award in April, and also earned Second Team All-UMAC honors in soccer during the fall.

Senior Nicolas Gartner was named the MLC recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, given to one player on each team who best exemplifies leadership during the season.
