Hemmelman named first team All-UMAC
NEW ULM — Junior Martin Luther College women’s tennis player Anna Hemmelman was named First Team All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference for the third consecutive season on Tuesday.
Hemmelman earned the honor after another stellar season at the top of the MLC line-up. After winning the 2018 UMAC Player of the Year award, Hemmelman finished 13-4 in No. 1 singles in 2019, including a 6-1 record in UMAC play. In the last two seasons, Hemmelman is a stellar 13-1 in league play, with her only defeat coming against Northwestern’s Nikki Paskewitz, winner of the 2019 UMAC Player of the Year award.
Hemmelman was also strong in doubles competition with an 8-9 record overall, including a 4-3 record in UMAC play.
This marks the third straight First Team All-UMAC honor for Hemmelman. She holds a 33-16 career singles record (all in number-one singles), and is 19-5 in UMAC play during that stretch.
Morgan Shevey was the MLC recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, given to one player on each team who best exemplifies sportsmanship during the season.
