Mankato West gets past New Ulm tennis team

NEW ULM — Mankato West defeated New Ulm 6-1 on Monday in a nonconference boys’ tennis match.

“We played well today,” New Ulm head coach Pete Engeldinger said. “We played competitively against (Mankato) West, and we like playing against them.”

Engeldinger said the Eagles were missing their No. 2 and No. 4 singles players in this match. New Ulm had to move some players up to cover the open slots in the match.

Colton Collum earned the lone Eagles win at No. 1 singles with a score of 6-1, 6-1. Max Gieseke lost at No. 2 singles 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, Justin Schapekahm lost at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1 and Cody Gilman lost at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0.

Aaron Eikanger and Ethan O’Connor lost at No 1 doubles 6-3, 6-6, (7-4). Josh Rakoczy and Joey Gag lost at No. 2 doubles 6-4, 6-6, (7-5) and Dan Rosenhamer and Jack Brownfield lost at No. 3 doubles 7-5, 6-4.

New Ulm (5-7) will host Waseca on Tuesday.
