Prep roundup: New Ulm tennis goes 1-1 at LQPV tourney

MADISON — The New Ulm boys’ tennis team went 1-1 on Saturday in nonconference tennis action.

New Ulm lost to Luverne 6-1 and defeated Lac qui Parle Valley 6-1 in the second match.

Against Luverne, Isaac Blumhoefer lost 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and Max Gieseke won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Tate Trullinger lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Justin Schapekahm lost 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles.

Ethan O’Connor and Dan Rosenhamer lost 6-2, 5-7, 10-4 at first doubles and Joey Gag and Josh Rakoczy lost 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Aaron Eikanger and Jack Brownfield lost 6-4, 7-6 at No. 3 doubles.

Against LQPV, Blumhoefer lost 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Gieseke won 6-3, 3-6, 10-2 at No. 2 singles. Trullinger won 1-6, 6-2, 10-6 at third singles and Schapekahm won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

In doubles, Eikanger and O’Connor won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and Rakoczy and Gag won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Rosenhamer and Brownfield picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.

New Ulm hosts Mankato West on Monday.

New Ulm Cathedral wins 3 on Saturday

WINDOM — New Ulm Cathedral went 3-0 at the Windom Tournament on Saturday.

Cathedral defeated Fairmont 4-3, Windom 9-3 and Martin County West 10-7.

Against Fairmont, Josie Pautzke earned the win. She struck out seven and allowed eight hits. Sarah Mohr was 2 for 3 with a run scored and Shay Ubl was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

In the second game, Pautzke earned the win. She struck out three and allowed seven hits and two walks. Emily Schommer was 3 for 4 with a double and a triple and Lauryn Franta was 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Pautzke also went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Against Martin County West, Pautzke picked up her third win of the day. She struck out four, walked one and allowed six hits.

Shaylynn Anderson took the loss. She gave up 10 hits and allowed 10 walks and she struck out four.

Heidi Hoffmann was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Megan Haala was 3 for 4. Pautzke was 2 for 3 with four RBIs.

Cathedral (9-2) hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Harman Park.

New Ulm girls 2nd at

Fairmont

FAIRMONT — The New Ulm girls’ golf team took second at the Cardinal Invite on Saturday with a 385. Fairmont won with a 361.

New Ulm’s Abbey Frauenholtz was second overall with an 84 to lead the Eagles. Jana Julia Boquet (91), Izzie Wolkow (104) and Makena Otto (106) also figured into New Ulm’s team score.

New Ulm loses twice in St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD — The New Ulm baseball team went 0-2 on Saturday in St. Cloud.

In the first game, Elk River defeated the Eagles 11-0 in five innings.

The Eagles also lost to Maple Grove 7-3.

Against Elk River, Braden Zimmerman took the loss. He pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on four hits. Cole Backer gave up five runs in 1 2/3 innings and Hunter Sehr gave up two runs and didn’t record an out.

New Ulm had five hits in the game. Jaden Domeier, Teagan Kamm, Colton Schaefer, Hunter Sehr and Caden Hames each had one hit apiece.

Against Maple Grove, Kamm took the loss. He went 4 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and two runs. Sehr allowed two runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings and Schaefer allowed three runs on four hits in 1/3 of an inning.

Kamm finished the game wiht two hits and Jackson Bode had two RBIs. Sehr also had two hits and an RBI and Zimmerman scored two runs.

New Ulm is at Faribault on Monday for a nonconference game.
