NICOLLET — Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey edged Nicollet on Friday in a nonconference softball game.

Marah Hulke earned the win for Nicollet. She pitched seven innings, gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Nicole Hall had three hits, including a double and a run scored. Jessi Johnson added two hits for the Raiders.

Nicollet will host Martin County West on Tuesday.

MLA/C (8-3) will host St. James Area on Monday.

New Ulm 5, BEA 2

BLUE EARTH — New Ulm defeated Blue Earth Area in Big South Conference tennis action on Friday.

Colton Collum won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and Isaac Blumhoefer won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Max Gieseke won 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) and Aaron Eikanger lost 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4 singles.

In doubles action, Ethan O’Connor and Dan Rosenhamer won 6-1, 6-3 at first doubles and Josh Rakoczy and Joey Gag won 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) at No. 2 doubles.

Justin Schapekamn and Jack Brownfield lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

New Ulm (4-5) is at Lac qui Parle Valley on Saturday.

Madelia takes 2nd at JWP invite

JANESVILLE — The Madelia boys’ golf team took second with a team score of 350 on Friday at the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton meet.

Cade Lunz led the Blackhawks with an 85 and Carson Wihlm shot an 86. Colin Wihlm carded an 88 and Jared Henry finished with a 91 for Madelia.

BLUE EARTH — New Ulm defeated Blue Earth Area on Friday in a Big South Conference girls’ golf meet.

Abbey Frauenholtz of New Ulm was the medalist with a score of 38. Jana Julia Boquet shot a 41 and Izzie Wolkow shot a 49. Paige Jacobs finished with a 51 for the Eagles.

New Ulm will participate in the Big South Tournament starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in Fairmont.

Track and field

MVL girls 1st, boys 3rd at Sibley East

ARLINGTON — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran girls’ track and field team took first place with 176.5 points at the Arlington Lions Invite on Friday. The MVL boys were third with 106 points.

For the girls, Lexi Fosburgh was second in the 200-meter dash (28.2 seconds) and Abby Nelson won the 1,600-meter run (5:56.91). Emma Nelson won the 300-hurdles (51.02) and Mara Weisensel won the 100-hurdles (16.59).

MVL’s 4×100-meter relay team took first in 53.59 and the 4×200 relay team was first in 1:59.19. Weisensel was second in the high jump (4-10) and Hannah Marzinske won the long jump (14-6).

Kaylee Hunter won the triple jump (31-9.5) and Marzinske was second (31-4.5). Emma Neslon finished second in the shot put (32-1).

For the boys, Christian Edwards was second in the 100-meter dash (12.08) and the 4×100-meter relay team finished second in 47.65.

The MVL 4×200-meter relay team also finished second in 1:42.93 and the 4×400-meter relay team was second in 4:01.64. The 4×800-meter relay team also finished second with a time of 9:38.25.

Jake Kettner was second in the high jump (5-6).
