Olivia Owens

JR. New Ulm High School

Daughter of Wayne & Michelle Owens

• Olivia Owens had a big day for the New Ulm girls’ track and field team on Thursday in Hutchinson. Owens broke the school record in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 5 inches. That broke the previous record from 2005 held by Sharon Wurtzberger, who had a mark of 5-4.5.

• Owens shined in other events too. She took first in the high jump (5-5), triple jump (33-2) and was part of the winning 4–100-meter relay with a time of 53.63 seconds. She had personal bests in all of her events on Thursday.

Owens has worked hard at breaking the high jump record and she succeeded on Thursday. She’s off to a fast start early on this season.

” Olivia had a great day at Hutchinson,” her coach Megan Asleson said. “Breaking the high jump record is a goal she has had for a while and she has been close several times. It was nice to hit that goal early in the season.
