Springfield breezes past Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey in 2A, Nicollet’s season ends

LAKE CRYSTAL — No. 2-seeded Springfield downed No. 3-seeded Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey 86-64 on Thursday night at Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial High School in Section 2A, South Subsection playoff action.
With the win, the Tigers move on to meet Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, the No. 1-seeded team in the south, at 6 p.m. Monday night at Gustavus Adolphus College.
The Tigers were led by Isaac Fink’s 37 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, while Decker Scheffler added 23 points and five rebounds. Also for Springfield, Mitchell Buerkle added 9 points.
The Tigers outshot MLA/C 53.1 percent to 42.9 percent and outrebounded MLA/C 36 to 25.
WEM 71, Nicollet 61
LAKE CRYSTAL — Waterville-Elysian-Morristown defeated Nicollet 71-61 on Thursday in a Section 2A, South Subsection boys’ basketball playoff game at Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial High School.
Nicollet was led by Riley Hulke, who had 26 points and eight assists. Also for Nicollet, Shane Stevensen scored 13 points and Josh Chadderdon scored 11 points.
Nicollet ends its season at 18-8.
