Bitter, Kjenstad receive All-UMAC honors

NEW ULM — Martin Luther College women’s soccer players Lydia Bitter and Sarah Kjenstad each earned All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference honors from the conference on Wednesday. Bitter was named Second Team All-UMAC, while Kjenstad received Honorable Mention All-UMAC.

Bitter played a key role in the middle of the field for the Knights this season, helping on both the offensive and defensive ends. She finished the season with two assists while finishing second on the team in both shots (24) and shots on goal (11) during UMAC play.

This marks the second all-conference honor for the sophomore, who received Honorable Mention All-UMAC in 2017 following her debut campaign.

Kjenstad stepped into a starting line-up in place of two All-UMAC defenders from last season and performed well. The junior middle defender started all 12 UMAC contests as the Knights allowed only 18 goals during those games.

Kjenstad and the MLC defense held eight UMAC opponents to one goal or less this season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mollie Fischer was named the MLC recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, given to one player on each team who best exemplifies sportsmanship during the season. MLC was also given the Team Sportsmanship Award, an award that is voted on by coaches in the UMAC.
