Prep roundup: New Ulm trounces Worthington

New Ulm 8, Worthington 0

WORTHINGTON — Paige Kalis scored three goals and added three assists, while Maddy Roufs added a pair of goals as New Ulm blanked Worthington on Thursday in a Big South Conference girls’ soccer match.

Jessica Moellenhoff, Bekah Friendshuh and Hannah Osborne scored the Eagles’ remaining three goals. Friendshuh’s and Osborne’s goals were unassisted. Friendshuh added an assist on the Eagles’ second goal by Kalis.

Kendra Nesvold had 12 saves as goaltender. New Ulm had 30 shots on goal.

New Ulm (5-2) will host Fairmont on Monday.

Prep volleyball

MVL 3, SESM 0

SLEEPY EYE — Minnesota Valley Lutheran swept Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

Mara Weisensel had 13 kills and five ace blocks for MVL. Haley Herfendal added 14 digs and six kills. Lauren Paulsen had 12 kills and 11 digs and Maddie Pearson had 34 set assists and 14 digs.

For the Knights, Cassie Heinrichs led with seven kills and nine digs, while Madison Mathiowetz had five kills, 10 digs and seven set assists. Alexa Owens added 12 digs, while Lauren Hoffman had 11.

Also for St. Mary’s, Leah Weiss had 14 digs and 10 set assists.

MVL (6-3, 2-0) will play at Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Monday.

Madelia 3, Nicollet 1

NICOLLET — Madelia defeated Nicollet 25-19, 25-21, 17-25, 25-22 on Thursday in a Valley Conference volleyball match.

Rachel Schultz and Alayna DeLaCruz each had 10 kills for Madelia. Blair Van Zee added nine kills and Faith Bergeman had seven kills, seven digs and 38 set assists. Caleyann Clobes had 19 digs for Madelia.

Madelia (3-5, 2-1) will host Mountain Lake Area on Monday. Nicollet will host St. Clair on Tuesday.

GFW 3, Springfield 1

SPRINGFIELD — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop downed Springfield 25-16, 25-17, 17-25, 25-17 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

Eva Mark led the Tigers with 46 set assists and 10 digs. Cora Wahl added 13 kills with 9 digs and Courtney Wendt had 10 kills and 9 digs. Brittany Rogotzke had 17 digs.

Miah Busse had 17 digs and five kills for GFW. Shelby Ramirez added 12 kills while Jordan Rettig 14 set assists and 10 digs. Hannah Thorsen contributed 12 set assists and eight digs. Hannah Panitzke had 16 digs, 13 kills and two blocks.

Springfield (5-6, 0-2) will host Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday. GFW will travel to Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity on Tuesday.

St. James Area 3,

New Ulm 1

ST. JAMES — St. Jamres Area downed New Ulm 25-17, 25-27, 25-22, 25-18 on Thursday in a Big South Conference volleyball match.

Izzy Wolkow had 27 set assists and 11 digs for New Ulm. Lizzy Shaul added 10 digs and Nora Windschill had 11 kills, 9 digs and two blocks.

New Ulm will participate in the Jackson County Central Invitational Tournament in Jackson on Saturday.

Prep girls’ tennis

Fairmont 6, New Ulm 1

FAIRMONT — Fairmont downed New Ulm on Thursday in a Big South Conference tennis match.

Emma Maudal earned the Eagle’s lone win with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles.

Makia Otto lost at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2, Abby Hietala lost at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-4 and Hannah Blumhoefer lost at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-3.

Kellyn Emerson and Malia Emerson lost at No. 1 doubles 6-3, 6-4, Abbey Frauenholtz and Carli Botten lost at No. 2 doubles 6-3, 6-0. Bethany Janssen and Lydia King lost at No. 3 doubles 6-0, 6-1.

New Ulm (2-5) will host Chanhassen on Monday.
