Bullheads open tournament play on Saturday

The Searles Bullheads over 35 men’s amateur baseball team will begin play this weekend in the Minnesota Senior Men’s Amateur Baseball Association state tournament.

The Bullheads’ first game will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday against Fergus Falls in LeSueur in the Class B/C division. If Searles wins they will play in the Class B division at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday against the winner of Eden Prairie/Waconia in St. Peter. A loss would mean they play in Class C against the Eden Prairie/Waconia loser at 11a.m. Sunday in Prior Lake.

Win or lose, the Searles Bullheads would continue tournament play the following weekend of August 25-26 at any one of the three tournament sites mentioned. Belle Plaine is the fourth site hosting 16 Class AA/A teams together with the 12 Class B/C teams.

The Searles Bullheads evened their season record at 6-6 with a 15-10 win last Friday evening over St. Louis Park in their final regular season game. With the score tied at 8-8, the Bullheads scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 15-8 lead and hold on for the win. The big blow in the sixth was a grand slam by Aaron Wilfahrt. Craig Schmitz picked up the win in relief of Jeremy Drexler, who pitched the first three innings. Troy Kamm relieved Schmitz in the seventh to get the save.
