Tigers upset Longhorns on Tuesday

STARK — The Springfield Tigers breezed to their first win in the Region 2C amateur baseball playoffs on Tuesday night, taking down the Stark Longhorns in convincing fashion 16-7.

Branden Flock led the Springfield bats with a 4-for-5 night at the plate, two home runs and four RBIs, while Pat Moriarty went 3 for 4 with seven RBIs and two homers. Sam Baier also went 3 for 6 with an RBI, while Brandon Wilhelmi added two hits, two RBIs and a homer. Ryan Sturm went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Leading the Stark offense was Jake Mangen, who went 4 for 4 with an RBI and Dusty Mangen, who went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. David Suprenaut was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Shawn Anderson got the win on the mound with six innings of work, allowing four earned runs on 11 hits and two walks. He struck out six.

Adam Sellner took the loss in 7 2/3 innings, allowing 14 hits and a walk for nine earned runs. He struck out six.
