Springfield falls to New London/Spicer
Eliminated from D2 state legion consolation bracket
PELICAN RAPIDS — Springfield Post 257 kept the New London/Spicer bats in check on Saturday morning in Pelican Rapids but couldn’t put a rally together to pull out a victory.
After Springfield scored two runs in the first inning, New London/Spicer came back to top Post 257 3-2 in Division II State Legion Baseball Tournament consolation bracket action. With the loss, Springfield was eliminated from the playoffs, while New London/Spicer moved on to a second game that afternoon where they were defeated by Wadena 4-1 in the consolation title game.
Springfield and New London/Spicer each had five hits and an error.
Mitchell Leonard led Springfield with a hit and a pair of RBIs. Henry Scheitel, Mason Rummel, Mitchell Buerkle and Decker Scheffler each added a hit for Springfield.
Leonard took the loss for Springfield with four innings of work. Hunter Mathiowetz pitched two innings of relief for Springfield.
