MANKATO — As the season progresses, New Ulm Silver continues to pile on runs as of late.

Silver defeated Mapleton VFW 15-5 in six innings in the Southeast Subdistrict playoffs at Franklin Rogers Park. Silver will play at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Franklin Rogers Park.

Will Schabert earned the win for New Ulm. He went five innings and allowed four runs on six hits. He gave up some early runs, but he got plenty of run support early on.

“Just knowing we have the offense, I can just go out there and do my job and let my defense do their job,” Schabert said. “It makes it pretty easy on me.”

Cade Bushard continued to swing a hot bat. He had two hits and four RBIs for Silver. Ethan Mixdorf drove in three runs for New Ulm.

Isaiah Anderson took the loss for Mapleton. He went 2 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs on five hits.

Mapleton struck first in the top of the first after Michael Whitehead scored on an RBI single by Anderson. New Ulm had a chance to get some runs in the bottom of the first. Silver loaded the bases with one out but were unable to push a run across against Anderson.

New Ulm grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second. It scored its first run after a throwing error allowed Isaiah Miller to score from second. With runners on second and third and two outs, Cade Bushard hit a short fly ball down the right field line. The Mapleton right fielder dove but missed and the ball rolled to the wall, allowing Bushard to circle the bases and giving New Ulm a 4-1 lead.

Joe Bennett’s infield single scored a run for Mapleton in the third but Mapleton stranded two runners.

New Ulm ended Anderson’s day on the mound in the bottom of the third. Ethan Mixdorf dropped a blooper to left-center, scoring Caleb Arndt and Isaiah Miller to put Silver up 6-2. Schabert grounded out later to score Mixdorf and that made it 7-2.

New Ulm scored two more in the fourth. Ethan Wiltscheck scored on an infield grounder and Caleb Arndt scored on a sacrifice fly by Mixdorf. Bushard then delivered a two-run single with two outs to make it 11-2.

Mapleton scored twice in the fifth and New Ulm responded with a single run. Max Nelson drove in a run for Mapleton in the sixth to make it 12-5, but New Ulm scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game. Mixdorf, Wayne Roberts and Riley Prochniak all scored, the last run coming on an RBI single by Arndt.

“We started out kind of hot the last few weeks, we just need to keep them rolling like we have been,” Schabert said. “I think that’ll work for us.”
