Area Sunday roundup: Sleepy Eye VFW picks up two wins

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye VFW picked up two wins on Sunday in a VFW baseball doubleheader against Edina by scores of 10-5 and 5-4.

In the 10-5 win, Matthew Sellner got the complete-game win, surrendering two earned runs on four walks and eight hits. He struck out six.

Sellner also went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Kyle Goblirsch went 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Carson Domeier also added a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs, while Kadon Strong added two hits and an RBI.

In the 5-4 victory, Nick Labat struck out 11 in the complete-game victory. He walked four, gave up two hits and allowed two earned runs.

Strong and Domeier each went 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

Legion baseball

New Ulm Gold 4, Laurel, Mt 3

New Ulm Gold 5, Excelsior 2

MINNETONKA — New Ulm Legion Gold finished the Gopher Classic with a 1-1 record on Sunday after a 4-3 win over Laurel, Montana and a 5-2 loss to Excelsior.

In the win against Laurel, Gold was led by Aaron Portner, who was 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. Josh Seidl also was 2 for 2 with an RBI. Andrew Peters got the complete-game win with nine strikeouts and two walks allowed.

In the loss, New Ulm was led by Jaden Domeier, who went for 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Jordan Fischer took the loss, surrendering three earned runs on four hits in one inning. He struck out one.

Amateur baseball

Springfield 6,

Leavenworth 3

LEAVENWORTH — The Springfield Tigers picked up a 6-3 victory over the Leavenworth Orioles in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

The Tigers were led by Mason Rummel, who was 4 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Decker Scheffler also went 2 for 5 with a pair of RBIs, while Branden Flock went 2 for 5 with two runs scored. Mitchell Leonard and Jacob Menage each added two hits.

Shawn Anderson got the complete-game win for the Tigers, allowing just one earned run on a walk and five hits. He struck out eight.

Matthew Helget took the loss, giving up 14 hits for four earned runs with four strikeouts.
