Schugel finishes 6th

JORDAN — New Ulm’s Glavine Schugel just missed the Top 5, finishing sixth overall at the Class AA boys’ state golf tournament on Tuesday at Ridges of Sand Creek.

Schugel finished with a two-day score of 145 and tied with Luke Alexander of Rochester Lourdes for sixth overall. Nate Deziel of East Grand Forks took home first place with a 137. Derek Hichner of the Blake School was second overall with a two-day score of 138.

Schugel, who shot a 74 on the first day, improved by three strokes on the second day with a 71.

New Ulm freshman Aiden Guggisberg finished the two-day event with a 159, tied for 48th overall. He shot an 80 on Wednesday after shooting a 79 on Tuesday.

On the girls’ side, New Ulm junior Abbey Frauenholtz ended the two-day competition with a score of 165 and she tied for 16th with Fairmont’s Bergen Senf. She shot an 83 on Wednesday after finishing with an 82 on the opening day.

Red Wing’s Sophia Yoemans was the overall medalist with a score of 129, ahead of her teammate Leah Herzog, who shot a 137.
