Area teams seeded for state baseball

Three area teams that qualified for the state baseball tournament beginning on Thursday have been seeded and now know who they will play.

New Ulm, the champions of Section 2AAA, will open the tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Eagles (20-3) will play unseeded South St. Paul (14-9) at 5:30 p.m. at Siebert Field on the campus of University of Minnesota. South St. Paul is the Section 3AAA champion.

In the Class A portion of the tournament, Sleepy Eye opens as the No. 2 seed and Wabasso is seeded No. 4.

Sleepy Eye (16-5) opens the tournament at 3 p.m. against unseeded Hinckley-Finlayson (14-4), the champions of Section 5A.

Wabasso (14-4) is seeded fourth in the tournament and will play No. 5 seed Parkers Prairie (18-9) at 12:30 a.m. Parkers Prairie is the champion of Section 6A. All first round Class A games will be held at Chaska Athletic Park.

Semifinal games and consolation games for both classes will be held on Friday and championship games will be at Target Field on Saturday.
