BOLD put five runners across in the bottom of the third inning to earn a 6-0 early lead during Game 2. The Warriors had four hits with two crucial Tiger (19-5) errors in the inning that Springfield would love to have back.

BOLD’s Andrew Sheehan led off the inning with a deep high fly ball that was hit into right-center field. Both Tigers outfielders struggled to track the ball as the sun became a factor in the field for the first error of the inning.

The second error of the inning was a throwing error from the infield as the Tigers failed to get the second out before any Warrior runners could reach home plate.

Springfield’s Henry Scheitel went the distance for the Tigers. He struck out five and gave up seven hits. Scheitel did not allow another BOLD runner to reach scoring position after the difficult third inning.

The Tigers struck with a run in the top half of the fifth inning from three hits. Tanner Vogel started the inning with a single into right field to get things started for the Tigers. Isaac Fink followed with a one out single to move Vogel up in the bases for the Springfield threat. Hunter Mathiowetz had the lone RBI with a line shot hit down the right field line scoring Vogel.

Mathiowetz led the Tigers going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Vogel was 2 for 4 with two singles and reached on an error and Fink went 1 for 4 on a single.

In Game 1 of the night the Tigers beat Cleveland 4-2 in the first elimination game of the night. The Clippers out hit the Tigers 7-2 but had two costly errors in the Springfield victory.

Springfield’s two runs in the home half of the second inning was the largest scoring threat of the night. Mathiowetz reach on an error then stole both second and third bases while Mason Rummel was at bat. Rummel hit into the 6-3 with Mathiowetz on the move as Cleveland takes the out at first.

Ivan Hovland also reached on an error in the inning allowing him to get to second and advanced to the final base on a wild pitch. Scheitel had the second RBI of the inning for the early Tiger lead.

In the Tigers’ half of the third inning, Mitchell Buerkle reached on a walk followed by a swiped base to second. Vogel dropped a bunt to move the runner forward, but the Clippers defense chose to try for the lead runner successfully getting Buerkle at third. Vogel scored the only Tiger run of the third which became the winning run for Tigers.

Fink started the game from the mound, pitching five solid innings with seven strikeouts with both runs charged before his night was over. Mitchell Leonard threw two innings in relief with two strikeouts and one walk for the save.

Leonard led at the plate with a ground-rule double that one-hopped the fence in left and scored the insurance run after a nine-pitch at bat.
