New Ulm finishes

10th in Section 3AA tournament

BUFFALO LAKE — The New Ulm girls’ golf team finished 10th in Day 1 of the Section 3AA tournament on Wednesday with a score of 391.

There were 14 total teams and Marshall took first (318), followed by Minnewaska (329) and Fairmont (368). The top five teams advance all six of their golfers to the section finals on Tuesday, while 14 other individual golfers with the best scores advance as well.

New Ulm’s Abbey Frauenholtz was tied for sixth place with an 84, while Izzie Wolkow was 32nd place with a 96. They will advance to section finals Tuesday.

Makena Otto shot a 100 for New Ulm and just missed the cut.

Wabasso boys finish sixth in Section 3A tourney

WORTHINGTON — The Wabasso boys’ golf team finished sixth out of 10 teams on Wednesday in Day 1 of the Section 3A golf tournament with a score of 410, while the girls were incomplete.

The top four teams advance to the Day 2 section finals at 9 a.m. in Worthington on Wednesday. The teams advancing are Murray County Central (372), Heron Lake-Okabena (397), Adrian (399) and Westbrook-Walnut Grove (404).

The Wabasso boys were led by Jacob Iverson, who shot a 96 to advance to Day 2 as an individual, while Kody Kuehn shot a 104 to advance to Day 2 as well. Tristan Kuehn and Jared Zollner each shot a 105 and also move on to Day 2.

The Wabasso girls had two golfers compete in Day 1 in Anna Rohland (131) and Gabby Welch (132).

Mankato West 12,

New Ulm 2, 5 innings

MANKATO — Mankato West picked up a 12-2 victory over the New Ulm Eagles on Wednesday in nonconference baseball action.

Tyler Walls received the loss for New Ulm, pitching three innings while allowing five earned runs on six hits and two walks.

Braden Zimmerman led the Eagles with a 2-for-3 day at the plate and an RBI, while Nolan Drill was 2 for 3 and Colton Schaefer was 2 for 2.

No. 1-seeded New Ulm hosts Waseca at noon on Saturday as the Section 2AAA playoffs begin.
