Area roundup: Kirchberg, Haala lead Cathedral boys past Cedar Mountain on Friday

FAIRFAX — The New Ulm Cathedral boys’ golf team won on Friday, while the Cedar Mountain girls won in a Tomahawk Conference golf meet at Mayflower CC.

Logan Haala and Ethan Kirchberg (both of Cathedral) were the boys’ co-medalists. Josh Gieseke shot a 45 for Cathedral. Ethan Bock carded a 41, while Dain Dallenbach and Aiden Nelsen each carded a 47 for CM.

Morgan Engholm shot a 49 to lead the CM girls. Shaylee Schiller carded a 51 and Katelyn Green had a 54 for CM. Cathedral was led by Emma Henle with a 54.

FAIRMONT — Madelia swept a nonconference triangular golf meet on Friday.

Carson Wihlm of Madelia was the boys’ medalist carding a 42. Jared Henry carded a 47 while Colin Wihlm, Joe Fenske and Cade Lunz each shot a 49.

Madelia’s Ally Missling and Alayna Champlin were co-medalist carding a 55 each. Courtney DeVlaeminck shot a 63.

Prep softball

New Ulm 10, Mounds View 8

MOUNDS VIEW — New Ulm edged Mouds View on Friday in a nonconference softball contest.

Ashlyn Donner was the winning pitcher. She went five innings, gave up three runs (one earned) on seven hits. She had 10 strikeouts.

Noelle Forstner was 4 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Mariah Piotter went 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Ellie Bute was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Madeline Gag was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

New Ulm (12-3) will face Waconia at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Mankato East Tournament at Casewell Park in North Mankato.

St. Clair-Loyola 3, Madelia 2

NORTH MANKATO — St. Clair-Loyola got a walk-off base hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Madelia on Friday in the Valley Conference Showcase.

Madelia’s Courtney Davis took the loss, pitching 6 2/3 innings, giving up three runs (two earned), four hits, seven walks while striking out five batters.

Madison Mueller was 1 for 4 with a hit and a run scored. Cara Teigum went 1 for 3 with a hit and an RBI. Alyssa Chloros added one run scored.

Madelia (2-11, 2-6) will host St. James Area on Saturday for a 10 a.m. nonconference matchup.

New Ulm 7,

Mankato East 6

MANKATO — New Ulm nipped Mankato East on Friday in a nonconference baseball contest.

Tyler Roufs was the winning pitcher. He went six innings, gave up six runs (three earned), seven hits, walked two and struck out five.

Andrew Peters had two hits, a run scored with two RBIs. Luke Scheid was 1 for 3 with a triple and an RBI. Jaden Domeier added three hits with a run scored and an RBI.

New Ulm (14-2, 11-1) will play at noon on Saturday at Luverne in the Big South Conference championship game.

Wabasso 12,

RRC-WWG 5

LAMBERTON - Wabasso downed Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Friday night in nonconference baseball action 12-5.

Tony Franta got the win on the mound, pitching five innings with nine strikeouts and one earned run allowed. Kyle Jacobson led the bats for Wabasso with three hits, while Jacob Platez added two hits and two RBIs and Will Carlson had two hits.

Minneapolis SW 11,

Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 1

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s suffered an 11-1 loss to Minneapolis Southwest on Friday.

Nick Labat added the lone hit for St. Mary’s. Labat also pitched four innings in the loss, allowing six hits, three walks and five earned runs with a strikeout.

St. Mary’s hosts ML/GHEC/T on Tuesday.
