SLEEPY EYE — The Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop boys and the Minnesota Valley Lutheran girls took first in the Tomahawk Conference track and field tournament on Thursday.

For the boys’ teams, MVL finished second behind GFW with 109 points, followed by Wabasso (75), Sleepy Eye Unified (31) and Cedar Mountain/Comfrey/Springfield (8). For the girls, Wabasso finished second behind MVL with 70 points, followed by GFW (58), CM/C/S (37), Sleepy Eye Unified (25).

For the girls, the top three in the 100-meter dash were Minnesota Valley Lutheran’s Shylo Hilbert (13.04), Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s Carly Thompson (13.47) and Cedar Mountain/Comfrey/Springfield’s Sydney Hauger (13.67).

The top three in the 200-meter dash were MVL’s Hilbert (26.67), Wabasso’s Lindsey Bernardy (27.09) and MVL’s Hannah Marzinske (27.48).

In the 400-meter dash, the top three were Wabasso’s Bernardy (61.10), CM/C/S’s Hauger (62.24) and CM/C/S’s Megan Sandgren (64.83).

In the 800-meter run, the top three were Wabasso’s McKenna Nelson (2:28.92), MVL’s Noelle Olson (2:32.80) and CM/C/S’s Haily Green (2:39.13).

The top three in the 1600-meter run were MVL’s Abby Nelson (5:35.18), GFW’s Grace Feder (5:37.42) and GFW’s Mia Johnson (5:57.73).

The top three in the 3200-meter run were Sleepy Eye Unified’s Abigial Hagen (13:03.84), Wabasso’s Chole Haven (13:19.53) and GFW’s Jessica Albrecht (14:11.04).

In the 100-meter hurdles, the top three were MVL’s Mara Weinsensel (17.61), MVL’s Emma Nelson (17.97) and MVL’s Rachel Black (18.48).

In the 300-meter hurdles, the top three were MVL’s Emma Nelson (50.07), MVL’s Black (52.05) and MVL’s Natasha Moreton (52.42).

The top two teams in the 4×100-meter relay were MVL (53.31) and GFW (55.19).

The top two teams in the 800-meter relay were MVL (1:52.19) and GFW (2:04.27).

In the 4×400-meter relay, the top two teams were Wabasso (4:18.84) and MVL (4:28.27).

In the 4×800-meter relay, the top two teams were Wabasso (10:40.77) and MVL (10:50.08).

The top three in the long jump were MVL’s Moreton (14-9), GFW’s Thompson (13-11) and MVL’s Ingrid Anderson (13-9).

The top three in the triple jump were MVL’s Marzinske (32-2 3/4) CM/C/S’s Laruen Zueg (30-5 1/4) and MVL’s Black (29-0 1/2).

In the shotput, the top three were MVL’s Emma Nelson (32-3 1/2), Sleepy Eye Unified’s McKenzie Cselovski (32-2) and GFW’s Olivia Schwarzrock (28-8).

In the discus throw, the top three were MVL’s Abby Nelson (97-7), Wabasso’s Ally Welch (94-4) and MVL’s Weisensel (92-5).

The top three in the high jump were MVL’s Moreton (4-10), Wabasso’s Nelson (4-6) and MVL’s Weisensel (4-4).

For the boys, Colton Taylor of Wabasso finished first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.52, Izayah Harrison of MVL was second with a time of 11.57 and Luke Miller of SEU was third with a time of 12.16.

The top three in the 200-meter dash were Wabasso’s Colton Taylor (22.99), Izayah Harrison of MVL (23.28) and Robert Rauh of MVL (24.55).

In the 400-meter dash, Colton Taylor of Wabasso (52.37), Robert Rauh of MVL (53.82) and Tylor Hopp of GFW (54.953.

The top three in the 800-meter run were Jacob Bohl of GFW (2:15.08), Jakin Anderson of MVL (2:21.25) and Noah Richert of CCM-S (2:22.30).

In the 1600-meter run, Javier Victorino of GFW (4:54.08), Jakin Anderson of MVL (5:03.20) and Will Pioske of GFW (5:06.61.

The top three in the 3200-meter run, Javier Victorino of GFW (10:59.22), Jacob Bohl of GFW (11:29.31) and Will Pioske of GFW (11:36.10).

In the 110-meter hurdles, James Victorino of GFW (17.90), Trent Fluegge of MVL (18.84) and Micha Roux of MVL (19.58).

The top three 300-meter hurdles, James Victorino of GFW (43.88), Trent Fluegge of MVL (47.26) and Isaac Huiras of SEU (47.31).

In the 800-meter relay, 4×800, 4×100, MVL took first (1:37.41), (10:06.10), (46.55), respectively. In the 4×400, GFW finished (3:49.06)

In the long jump, the top three were Colton Taylor of Wabasso (18-10), Carlos Ramirez of MVL (18-2 1/2), Nick Bleick of MVL (17-7).

The top three in the triple jump were: Isaac Nelson of SEU (37-3), Tylor Hopp of GFW (36-7 3/4), and Joey Goeglin of MVL (35-9).

In the shot put, the top three were Myles Zeug of Wabasso (49- 6 1/2), Isaac Schmiesing of Wabasso (45-10 1/2) and Scott Zollner of Wabasso (43-10 1.2).

The top three in the discus throw were Wyatt Kiel of GFW (141.7), Carl Swedzinski of Wabasso (139-0), and Myles Zeug of Wabasso (135-2).

James Victorino of GFW was first in the high jump (5-10), Johnnie Ambrose of GFW (5-4) and Josephy Wessel of MVL (5-2).

James Hagen of SEU was first in the wheelchair-100 dash (46.19). In the wheelchair-200 dash, James Hagen of SEU (1:36.75) and James Hagen in the wheelchair shot put (4-10).

Prep softball

Pipestone 3, New Ulm 1

PIPESTONE — Pipeston handed New Ulm its third loss of the season on Thursday in the Big South Conference Championship softball game.

Ashlyn Donner took the loss for the Eagles. She pitched seven innings and gave up three runs on three hits with two walks. She struck out eight. She went 1 for 3 batting with a run scored. Mariah Piotter went 2 for 3 and Noelle Forstner was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

New Ulm (11-3) will play at 5 p.m. on Friday at Mounds View.

St, Mary’s 10, Wabasso 9

St. Mary’s 4, Wabasso 0

WABASSO — Sleepy St. Mary’s swept Wabsso in a Tomahawk Conference softball doubleheader on Thursday.

The losing pitcher in Game 1 was Wabasso’s Emily Benz, who had nine strikeouts and gave up four earned runs.

In Game 1, Wabasso was led by Jenna Frank, who went 3 for 4 with two doubles, Megan Rothmeier, who had three hits and one double and Madeline Hanna, who had two hits.

The losing pitcher in Game 2 was Wabasso’s Benz, who had three strikeouts and gave up three hits.

Wabasso’s leading batters in Game 2 were Allison Fenger, who had a double and Sarah Franta, Cora Eichten and Benz, who all had a single.

Wabasso (9-9) and St. Mary’s will both begin section playoffs on Tuesday.

Nicollet 13, GFW 5

WINTHROP — Nicollet defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday in a nonconference softball game.

Halley Johnson earned the win, pitching a complete game, giving up five runs, 13 hits, walking two and striking out five.

Marah Hulke had two hits, a run scored and three RBIs for Nicollet. Haley Schwecke had three hits, a run scored and two RBIs while Rylee Sabo added three hits and two RBIs for GFW.

St. Peter 6, New Ulm 5

ST. PETER — St. Peter defeated New Ulm 6-5 on Thursday in a Big South Conference baseball game.

The losing pitcher was New Ulm’s Braden Zimmerman, who had two strikeouts and allowed five hits and five runs.

New Ulm’s leading batters were Luke Scheid, who went 3 for 4 with one triple, one run and one RBI, Tyler Roufs, who went 2 for 3 with one run and Jaden Domeier, who went 1 for 4 with one run and one RBI.

New Ulm plays at 7 p.m. on Friday at Mankato East.

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield swept Sleepy Eye on Thursday in Tomahawk Conference baseball action.

Hunter Mathiowetz earned the win in Game 1. He went four innings, gave up six runs, nine hits, and he struck out two batters.

Springfield’s Decker Scheffler had a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs. Isaac Fink added a triple with one RBI.Tanner Vogel added two hits, one run scored and three stolen bases.

Avery Stevens took the loss, going four innings, giving up seven runs (six earned), six hits, walked four and he struck out six batters.

Landon Strong had three hits, including a home run with two runs scored and three RBIs.Kyle Domeier added two hits with two RBIs and Parker Neid had three hits with two RBIs.

In Game 2, Henry Scheitel of Springfield, was the winning pitcher, going five innings, giving up no runs, two hits, walked won and he struck out five batters.

Scheffler was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and two runs scored. Fink added two RBIs with a hit and two runs scored. Ivan Hovland added two RBIs with one hit.

Matthew Sellner took the loss. He pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs (five earned), three hits, walked five and he struck out one batter.

Strong added two hits for Sleepy Eye in Game 2.

SLEEPY EYE — Wabasso swept Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference doubleheader.

Jacob Plaetz earned the win in Game 1. He pitched five innings, gave up three runs and he struck out two batters.

Nick Altermatt went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Ty Kemp was 2 for 4 with an RBI for Wabasso.

Spencer Hoffman was 1 for 4 and Andrick Sanchez was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Dallas Bauer took the loss, going six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.

Altermatt was the Rabbit’s winning pitcher in Game 2. He pitched five innings, gave up four hits and he sgtruck out six batters. He went 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs.

Plaetz went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and Ty Kemp went 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

Kyle Goblirsch took the loss going 1 2/3 of an inning, giving up 10 runs on nine hits.

SESM (3-12) will host Minneapolis Southwest on Friday. Wabasso (8-4) will play at 7 p.m. on Friday in Lamberton against Red Rock Central/Westbrook/Walnut Grove.

MADELIA — Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey crushed Madelia on Thursday in a nonconference baseball contest.

Logan Anderson took the loss in Game 1. He pitched two innings, gave up seven hits on seven runs, walked two and he struck out two.

Luke Hennis and Tyler Schwanke were both 2 for 3. Andrew Arduser was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Tyler Connors was the losing pitcher in Game 2. He went two innings, giving up five runs on six hits, walked two and he struck out three batters. Schwanke went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Madelia (2-13) will host Alden-Conger on Saturday.

MADELIA — The Sleepy Eye United boys took first place in a golf triangular held at Madelia golf course.

The medalist for the boys was Madelia’s Carson Wihlm, who shot a 40.

Also for the Madelia boys, Jared Henry shot a 45, Colin Wihlm shot a 46 and Joe Fenske shot a 49.

The Sleepy Eye United boys were led by Andrew Neid, who shot a 41, Thor Weiss and Parker Landkammer, who both shot a 42 and Ben Laffen, who shot a 43.

The medalist for the girls was Madelia’s Ally Missling, who shot a 50.

Also for the Madelia girls, Jude Frelich shot a 55, Angelica Garcia shot a 58 and Alayna Chaplin shot a 59.

Madelia plays against Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/ MArtin Luther at 4:15 p.m. on Friday at Rose Lake Golf Club. Sleepy Eye United plays at triangular at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at New Ulm Country Club.

SANBORN — The Springfield boys and girls prevailed in a nonconference quadrangular golf meet on Thursday.

Makenna Winkelman (Springfield) was the girls’ medalist, shooting a 42. Makenzie Lothert and Lacole Weisensel each shot a 47 and Anna Plotz carded a 49.

Maverick Winkelman of Springfield was the boys’ medalist, having a score of 37. Mason Kretsch shot a 39, while Christopher Thram and Xander Michel each had a 43.

New Ulm girls take

second at Jordan Invite

JORDAN — The New Ulm girls’ golf team finished second out of four teams at the Jordan Invite on Thursday with a team score of 399 and only four golfers.

Izzie Wolkow and Lucy Sletta had personal bests of 88 and 107, respectively, for the Eagles. Abbey Frauenholtz shot an 89, while Paige Jacobs shot a 114.

Jordan won the invite with a score of 345.
