MLC’s Baehman named first team All-UMAC

NEW ULM — Three Martin Luther College baseball players earned All-UMAC honors on Tuesday. Junior Matt Baehman was named First Team All-UMAC, while Caleb Christopher and Dillon Solomon each earned Honorable Mention All-UMAC honors.

Baehman earned the honor as an infielder after batting .406 during UMAC play with 28 hits, four doubles, 16 runs scored and 32 total bases. For the entire season, Baehman hit .343 with team-highs in hits (37) and runs scored (24).

Baehman was also one of the Knights’ top pitchers, and finished with a 6.69 earned run average (ERA) and four complete games in a team-high 37.2 innings of work.

Christopher earned honorable mention for the second consecutive season after batting .298 and leading the team with two home runs and seven doubles. He also finished second on the team with 18 runs batted in (RBI). During UMAC play, Christopher hit .350 with six doubles and 12 RBI.

Solomon was a key player in right field and on the mound in his junior season. He finished the season with a .352 batting average, 17 runs scored, seven stolen bases, four doubles and two triples. During UMAC play, Solomon hit .333.

On the mound, Solomon finished with an 8.91 ERA and a team-best 33 strikeouts in 33.1 innings of work.

Senior outfielder Karl Kuschel was named the MLC recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, given to one player on each team who best exemplifies sportsmanship during the season.
