MVL girls, Sibley East boys finish first

in Sleepy Eye

SLEEPY EYE — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran girls’ track and field team put on a dominant performance on Monday at the Sleepy Eye Invitational, taking first with 126 points.

Sibley East finished second (75), followed by Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (57), Cedar Mountain/Comfrey/Springfield (45), and Sleepy Eye (39).

For the boys, GFW finished second with 105 points, while Sibley East took first with 124 points. Taking third for the boys was MVL (72), followed by Sleepy Eye (40) and CM/C/S 8.

For the MVL girls, M. Weisensel took first in the 100-meter high hurdles (17.60), while E. Nelson finished second (17.97). S. Hilbert took first in the 100-meter dash (13.01), and A. Nelson took first in the 1,600-meter run (5:48.33). The MVL girls took first in the 4×200-meter relay (1:52.14) and first in the 4×100 (52.57).

In the 400, K. Lyimo took second (1:08.12), while in the 300-meter hurdles, E. Nelson took first (50.48). In the 200, L. Fosburgh took second (28.57). E. Nelson took second in the shot put (28-11.50) and second in the discus (85-07). M. Weisensel took first in the high jump (4-10), while N. Morten took second (4-08).

H. Marzinske finished first in the triple jump (37-07).

CM/C/S’s S. Hauger took second in the 100 (13.37) and first in the 400 (1:02.29). She also took first in the 200 (28.16).

A. Hagen of SEU, finished second in the 1,600-meter run (5:53.70) and first in the 3,200 (13:07.44). Also for SEU, M. Cselovszki took first in the shot put (31-00.5).

For the GFW boys, the team took first in the 4×800 (9:37.75), second in the 4×200 (1:43.96) and second in the 4×100 (53.03). J. Victorino took second in the 100-meter high hurdles (17.86), while W. Kiel took first in the shot put (42-10).

Kiel also took first in the discus (122-06.5), while M. Schmidt took second (117-10.5). Victorino also took second in the high jump (5-08) and first in the 3,200-meter run (10:17.97). J. Bohl of GFW took second in the 3,200 (11:12).

MVL’s I. Harrison finished first in the 100 (11.51), while J. Anderson finished second in the 1,600-meter run (4:47.75). R. Rauh took second in the 400 (53.94), while T. Fluegge took second in the 300-meter hurdles (47.67).

Anderson also finished second in the 800-meter run (2:15.32).

For the SEU boys, L. Miller took second in the 100 (11.88), while the boys won the 4×200 (1:42.10). In the 200, Z. Schumacher took second (25.15). I. Nelson finished second in the triple jump (41-03). J. Hagen took first in the 100-meter wheelchair (51.33) and first in the 200-meter wheelchair (1:46.93).

SPRINGFIELD — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s topped Springfield in both games of a doubleheader on Monday.

Leah Wiess was the winning pitcher in Game 1 allowing one hit with two strikeouts and a walk.

Brittany Rogotzke got the loss with nine hits allowed, two strikeouts and six walks.

Springfield’s Cheyanne Hammerschmidt had the only hit in Game 1 for the Tigers.

St. Marys’ Dani Wiess was 3 for 4 with two doubles, while Jody Hansen was 2 for 3.

In Game 2

Mallory Helget got the win with five hits and a walk allowed and three strikeouts.

Mariah Kirschstein received the loss, allowing six hits and three walks, with two strikeouts.

Springfield’s Liz Johnson was 2 for 2, Taylor Augustin was 1 for 1 with a double, and Mya Mickelson and Sam Richert each added a hit.

Wiess was 2 for 3 in Game 2 for the Knights, while Ali Beltz, Emily Stevens, Helget and Leah Wiess each added one hit apiece.
