NEW ULM — New Ulm defeated Faribault 6-1 on Wednesday in a nonconference boys’ tennis match.

“It was a pretty good match,”  New Ulm tennis player Andrew Goodall said. “We’ve had some rough matches lately, so it felt good to have a good one today.”

Goodall noted that his match (No. 1 singles) was balanced with some long points and it wasn’t a lopsided win for him.

The Eagles swept all four of the singles sets and two of the three doubles sets.

Goodall won at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2, Colton Collum won at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0, Isaac Blumhoefer prevailed at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Max Gieseke won at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0.

Connor Drill and Justin Schepekahm lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, Andrew Schroeder and Aaron Eikanger won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles, while Elijah Miller and Cody Gilman won by forfeit at No. 3 doubles.

“We’re looking forward to the sectionals which start next week,” New Ulm head coach Pete Engeldinger said.

He was pleased with how the team played against Faribault and hopes it continues the rest of the year.

New Ulm (3-8) will play at Mankato East on Thursday.
