106: Drayden Morton,
eighth grade, Sibley East
The eighth-grader finished his season with a 35-10 record and a trip to state at Class A, where he was eliminated by Ethan Arett (Westfield Razorbacks) in the second round of the consolation bracket. Arett went on to take fourth.
113: Derek Steele,
fr., Sibley East
Steele went 34-17 in his freshman year at Sibley East and went on to state at Class A as a result. He was eliminated by Marshall Michienzi (Deer River).
120: Dayne Morton,
sr., Sibley East
Morton finished a strong season off with a return trip to state and this time, a first-place finish in Class A at 120 pounds. He went 44-3 in his final year at high school and will next wrestle for Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. His career record is 117-9 with 47 pins and 572 team points.
132: Cole Ranweiler,
fr., New Ulm Area
Cole Ranweiler went 30-17 with 22 falls in a solid freshman year for New Ulm Area and made it to the state wrestling tournament as a result. He made it to Day 2 of the individuals consolation bracket before falling to Afton Kaping (Litchfield), who took fourth at state.
138: Sean Howk,
jr., New Ulm Area
Howk finished his junior year with a 36-9 record and an appearance in the state wrestling tournament at Class AA. Howk is currently 165-41 in his career.
145: Hunter Ranweiler,
sr., New Ulm Area
Ranweiler finished a dominating season and career at New Ulm with a 41-4 record, 17 falls and a return trip to state in Class AA. He made it to Day 2 in the consolation bracket but fell to Antonio Cortez (South Saint Paul), who finished fifth place. Ranweiler finished with a career 160-51 record.
152: Tanner Stark,
sr., New Ulm Area
Stark finished his career with a 32-12 season, 11 falls and a trip to state at 152 pounds in Class AA. Stark made it to Day 2 of individuals in the consolation bracket but was eliminated by Carter Marx (Plainview-Elgin-Millville), who took fifth place. Stark finished with a career record of 73-34.
152: Tommy Wentzlaff, sr., Sibley East
Wentzlaff finished a standout career with a 46-5 season and a sixth-place finish at state in Class A at 152 pounds. He finished with a 141-75 career record with 69 pins and 605 team points. Wentzlaff was described his his coach Chad Johnson as being the heart of the team with killer instinct.
160: Jared Schroepfer, jr., Wabasso/RRC
Schroepfer finished his junior year going 32-5 and qualifying for state at 160 pounds in Class A. He fell in his opening match to Matt Ziebell (Pelican Rapids) and unfortunately wasn’t given a second chance in wrestlebacks after Ziebell dropped his next match. He is 107-45 in his career.
170: Nick Altermatt,
sr., Wabasso/RRC
Altermatt finished an impressive career at Wabasso with a third-place finish at the state wrestling tournament in Class A at 170 pounds. He had a 35-2 record in his senior year and went 123-35 in his career.
182: Thomas Batcher,
sr., Sibley East
Batcher went 21-12 his final year at Sibley East and qualified for state at 182 pounds in Class A. Johnson, his coach, described him as a quiet leader that works hard outside the room.
195: Andrew Schauer,
sr., Sibley East
Schauer went 39-7 his senior year and wrapped up his final season with a trip to state in Class A at 195 pounds. Coach Johnson said Schauer will wrestle anyone and that he has a lot of guts.
220: Kaleb Haase,
so., Redwood/River Valley
Haase took fifth-place in the state wrestling tournament this year at 220 pounds in Class AA. He finished his sophomore year with a 41-9 record.
Hwt: Chad Maddock,
so., Redwood/River Valley
Maddock wrapped up a 31-12 season with a trip to state at heavyweight in Class AA. Maddock was defeated in his first-round match by Zachary Jakes (Mankato West), who would go on to take first place at heavyweight.
