Area Roundup: Springfield girls move on in 2A playoffs

Girls’ basketball

Springfield 52, JWP 36

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield defeated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 52-36 on Tuesday in the Section 2A, South Subsection playoffs.

Springfield was led by Sydney Hauger, who scored 16 points and Brandi Platz, who scored 10 points.

JWP’s leading scorer was led by McKenna Ziemke, who scored 13 points.

Springfield plays against Nicollet at 7:45 p.m. on Friday at Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial.

Nicollet 62,

GHEC-T-ML 49

NICOLLET — Nicollet defeated Granada Huntley East Chain-Truman-Martin Luther 62-49 on Tuesday in the Section 2A, South Subsection playoffs.

Nicollet’s leading scorer was Grace Dehen, who scored 25 points. Also for Nicollet, Brook Skrien had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Sarah Haugum had 11 points and five rebounds.

Nicollet plays against Springfield at 7:45 p.m. on Friday at Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial.

BOLD 68, Cathedral 41

OLIVIA — BOLD knocked out New Ulm Cathedral from the Section 2A, North Subsection playoffs on Tuesday.

Cathedral did not report any stats to The Journal.

Cathedral ends its season at 8-20.

LQPV 65, Wabasso 49

MARSHALL — Lac qui Parle Valley defeated Wabasso in a Section 3A girls’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Wabasso was led by Maddy Guetter with 19 points and seven rebounds. Jenna Frank had 16 points and two assists. Wabasso finished the season at 20-4.

Boys’ basketball

New Ulm 65,

Albert Lea 61

ALBERT LEA — New Ulm defeated Albert Lea 65-61 on Tuesday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

New Ulm’s leading scorer was Connor Foley, who had 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Also for New Ulm, Reece Melby scored 18 points and Matt Janke scored 17 points.

New Ulm begins playoff action on Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.
