WINTHROP — Wabasso defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 49-47 on Friday in a Tomahawk conference boys’ basketball game.

Wabasso was led by Tony Franta, who had 12 points and eight rebounds. Also for Wabasso, Colton Taylor had 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists and Brock Rohlik had 10 points and seven rebounds.

No stats were provided by GFW.

Wabasso plays at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.

Cathedral 80, Nicollet 69

NICOLLET — New Ulm Cathedral defeated Nicollet 80-69 on Friday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Nicollet was led by Ean Thomsen, who had 32 points, six rebounds and six assists. Also for Nicollet, Riley Hulke had 22 points, eight assists and five rebounds and Ben Bode had 8 points.

No stats were provided by Cathedral.

Nicollet hosts Madelia at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

RRC 60, Fulda 55

LAMBERTON — Red Rock Central defeated Fulda 60-55 on Friday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

RRC was led by Brady Rasmussen, who had 19 points and five assists. Also for RRC, Spencer Halland had 17 points and 14 rebounds and Logan Pankonin had 13 points.

RRC (15-10, 10-6) plays against Murray County Central at 12 p.m. on Saturday in Worthington.

Loyola 54, Sleepy Eye 43

SLEEPY EYE — Mankato Loyola defeated Sleepy Eye 54-43 on Friday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Sleepy Eye’s leading scorer was Zach Haala, who scored 10 points. Also for Sleepy Eye, Jon Mickelson had six block and 10 rebounds.

Loyola hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Sleepy Eye hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

BLHS 70, Madelia 38

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Madelia 70-38 on Friday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

BLHS was led by Trent Weispfenning, who scored 26 points.

Madelia was led by Ja’Sean Glover, who scored 8 points.

BLHS plays at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Sleepy Eye. Madelia (3-22) plays at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Nicollet.

Prep wrestling

New Ulm had seven wrestlers move on in 3AA individual wrestling tournament action on Friday at Dawson-Boyd.

Moving on to semis are Carter Brandes (106), Cole Ranweiler (132), Sean Howk (138), Hunter Ranweiler (145), Tanner Stark (152), Lane Miller (170) and Colby Wenninger (220).
