Big 2nd half lifts Springfield boys past CM/C
MORGAN — In the end, it was just too much Isaac Fink.
The Springfield junior took over in the second half against Cedar Mountain/Comfrey and led the Tigers to a 76-66 Tomahawk Conference boy’s basketball victory on Tuesday.
Fink finished the game with 35 points. Tanner Vogel scored 18 for the Tigers and Decker Scheffler scored 10 points.
The Cougars jumped out to a 7-0 lead early on, but the Tigers scored the next 8 points to grab an 8-7 lead.
The teams traded the lead in the first half as there were nine lead changes. CM/C led 32-31 at halftime but Springfield closed the half on a 4-0 run late.
In the second half, Fink gave the Tigers a 34-32 lead on a 3-pointer and he later hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 37-37. Later, a 5-0 run by the Tigers gave them a 48-39 lead, but the Cougars once again came back and cut the deficit to 48-46 thanks to a 7-0 run.
Fink scored 11 of Springfield’s next 13 points to give the Tigers the lead for good. He hit 2-of-3 from the free throw line to give his team a 63-55 lead with 3:39 left in the game.
Lewis Pendleton led CM/C with 22 points and seven assists and Eli Samuelson scored 19 points. Dylan Hillesheim had 11 points.
Springfield is at Cathedral on Friday and CM/C hosts Mayer Lutheran on Thursday.
