Prep roundup: New Ulm boys fall in Faribault; Eagle boys skate past Dodge County 3-1

Prep boys’ basketball

Faribault 64, New Ulm 55

FARIBAULT — The Faribault Falcons (3-6) defeated the New Ulm Eagles (7-6) 64-55 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Saturday.

Reece Melby led the Eagles with 16 points, while Matt Janke and Connor Foley each ended with 14 points.

New Ulm will host Redwood Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

RRC 63, Wabasso 51

LAMBERTON — Red Rock Central defeated Wabasso 63-51 in boys’ basketball action on Saturday.

Brady Rasmussen led RRC with 24 points, six rebounds and eight steals. Spencer Halland added 18 points and five rebounds for RRC, while Logan Pankonin had 7 points and nine boards.

For Springfield, Cooper Taylor led with 19 points and Tony Franta added 13.

RRC moves to 7-2, while the Rabbits fall to 1-8.

Prep girls’ basketball

Wabasso 51, RRC 33

LAMBERTON — The Wabasso Rabbits knocked off Red Rock Central 51-33 on Saturday in girls’ basketball.

Jenna Frank and Gina Goblirsch added 13 points each for the Rabbits, while Maddy Guetter had 11.

H Simonson led RRC with 10 points.

The Rabbits improve to 7-3 with the win and host Springfield on Monday.

Prep boys’ hockey

New Ulm 3, Dodge County 1

KASSON — The New Ulm Eagles (6-7) defeated Dodge County (5-8) in a nonconference boys hockey game on Saturday.

Colton Braulick scores on assists from Landon Strong and Kyle Tauer, Josh Seidl scored with Braulick have the assist and Strong’s goal came on an assist from Nick Banal.

New Ulm goaltender Jack Raymond had 16 saves and the Eagles put 47 shots on net.

New Ulm will take on Redwood Valley at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Redwood Falls.

Prep gymnastics

Marshall Invite – New Ulm finishes third

MARSHALL — New Ulm finished third out of eight teams in the Marshall Invite with a score of 134.475. No. 1 Willmar took first with a 145.825, while No. 5 Worthington took second with a 142.875.

Sarah Longtin finished seventh in vault with a 9.25, ninth in bars with an 8.2 and fifth all around with a 34.775.

Michelle Rosenhamer finished eighth in vault with a 9.225 and 10th on the beam with an 8.475.

Prep wrestling

RRV defeats Luverne and Jackson Co. Central

JACKSON — Redwood-River Valley won 52-18 over Luverne and 41-27 over Jackson County Central on Friday in a triangular.

Tayte Harazin at 145 (Junior) got his 75th and 76th career win and was 2-0 on the day.

New Ulm fourth at NYA Tourney

NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA — New Ulm finished fourth, 155, out of 11 teams on Saturday in the Norwood Young America Tournament.

Northfield had a 194 for first, while Sibley East took second with a 189 and Wabasso/RRC took third with a 160.

Individually, New Ulm’s Sean Howk (138), Hunter Ranweiler (145) and Tanner Stark (152) took first.

Cole Ranweiler (132) and Colby Wenninger were third for the Eagles, while Carter Brandes (106), Jackson Bode (113), Jacob Bertrang (126) and Lane Miller (160) finished fourth.
