Nicollet boys fall to BOLD 89-73, New Ulm gymnastics team takes 2nd in Mankato

BOLD 89, Nicollet 73

NICOLLET — BOLD defeated Nicollet 89-73 on Saturday afternoon in a nonconference basketball game.

Ean Thomsen led the Raiders (1-3) with 31 points and five rebounds, while Riley Hulke had a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists. Anthony Macias and Ben Bode each chipped in 8 points for Nicollet.

Nicollet plays at 7:15 p.m. at Truman on Tuesday.

Prep gymnastics

MANKATO — The New Ulm gymnastics varsity team took second overall in the Mankato East Invite on Saturday with a score of 130.425.

Mankato West won the event with a 133.1 score.

Michelle Rosenhammer and Sarah Longtin finished with the top two scores for New Ulm in vault with an 8.975 and an 8.9 respectively. Longtin and Paige Kalis finished with the top two scores for New Ulm in bars with an 8 and a 7.775.

On the balance beam, Rosenhammer and Longtin were the top two New Ulm gymnasts with scores of 8.15 and 7.85 respectively, and they were also the top two New Ulm scores in floor with Longtin getting a 9.075 and Rosenhammer receiving an 8.9.

Longtin and Kelsi Miller received the best all-around scores for New Ulm with a 33.825 and a 30.55 respectively.

In addition to the varsity taking second, the JV squad took first place with a 115.4 score.

Women’s basketball

MLC 54, Northland 47

ASHLAND, Wis. — The Martin Luther College women’s basketball team earned a tough 54-47 win at Northland on Saturday to improve to 2-0 in UMAC play.

The game was a defensive struggle for both teams, as the Knights finished the game shooting 31.4 percent from the field while the LumberJills shot 32.0 percent.

Schultz finished with a team-high 19 points, and also led the team with 11 rebounds, six steals and four assists. Moriah Hackbarth also played a key role with 11 points and four steals.

MLC returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Bethany Lutheran College in a game scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.

Men’s basketball

MLC 72, Northland 67

ASHLAND, Wis. — The Martin Luther College men’s basketball team earned its first win of the season by the score of 72-67 in overtime at Northland on Saturday.

The Knights battled back from a seven-point halftime deficit thanks to a stifling defense that held the Lumberjacks to 28.6 percent shooting in the second half.

Ian Paulsen led the Knights with 17 points to go with team highs in rebounds (nine), assists (four) and blocks (three). Richard Eckmann joined him in double figures with 11 points, while Eddie Powe scored a career-best 11 points off the bench.

The Knights return to action on Wednesday when they host Bethany Lutheran College for a game scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
