New Ulm boys pick up first win of the year: Prep Roundup

Boys’ hockey

New Ulm 6, Marshall 5, OT

MARSHALL — New Ulm edged Marshall on Thursday in a Big South Conference boys’ hockey game.

Sam Berg had three goals with one assist, Landon Strong added two goals and Kyle Tauer scored a goal. Josh Seidl had four assists.

Jack Raymond had 27 saves in goal for the Eagles.

New Ulm (1-3, 1-0) will host South St. Paul on Friday.

Prep gymnastics

NEW ULM — Worthington defeated New Ulm in a Big South Conference gymnastics meet on Thursday night.

Sarah Longtin finished first in floor (8.975), sixth in vault (8.825), fourth in bars (8.3), sixth in balance beam (7.950) and third in all-around (34.05). Michelle Rosenhamer finished third in vault with a 9.05 average score and fourth in floor (8.9).

Kelsi Miller finished seventh in bars (7.95) and was fourth in all-around (31.4). Emma Gaubert finished seventh in balance beam (7.465).

Boys’ basketball

Nicollet 60, MCW 55

SHERBURN –Nicollet defeated Martin County West on Thursday in a Valley Conference boys’ basketball game.

Ean Thomsen led Nicollet with 19 points and five steals. Riley Hulke added 18 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Anthony Macias had 8 points and eight rebounds.

Nicollet (1-2, 1-0) will host BOLD on Saturday.

Mankato Loyola 74, Madelia 62

MANKATO — Mankato Loyola defeated Madelia on Thursday in a Valley Conference boys’ basketball game.

Ja’Sean Glover led Madelia with 34 points, with 24 of them coming in the first half. Glover hit five 3-pointers in the contest and four of them were in the first half. Josh Sletta added 8 points.

Madelia (0-3) will host Cleveland on Tuesday.

Prep wrestling

Sibley East 33,

New Ulm 29

ARLINGTON — Sibley East edged New Ulm on Thursday in a nonconference wrestling meet.

Nick Syverson won at 120 by a 4-3 decision, John Mehlhop won at 132 with a 10-8 overtime decision and Cole Ranweiler won by a fall at 138 at :32.

Sean Howk won a 2-1 in overtime decision at 145, Hunter Ranweiler won by an 11-1 decision at 152, Tanner Stark won at 160 by a 17-7 decision and Colby Wenninger won at 285.

New Ulm will host Blue Earth Area on Thursday.
