JANESVILLE–Minnesota Valley Lutheran topped Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 60-26 on Thursday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.
MVL was led by Maddie Spurgin who scored 10 points and had five assists. Also for MVL, Maddie Pearson scored 10 points, Lauren Paulsen scored nine points and had eight rebounds and Hannah Marzinske scored nine points.
JWP was led by Brielle Cords who scored nine points.
MVL (1-1) plays at Springfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
St. Mary’s 59, NUC 38
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated New Ulm Cathedral 59-38 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.
St. Mary’s was led by Maddison Mathiowetz who scored 14 points and had seven rebounds. Also for St. Mary’s, Jody Hansen scored 10 points and had four assists and five steals, Sydney Windschitl scored 10 points and had six rebounds and five steals and Mallory Helget scored 13 points.
The leading scorers for Cathedral were Rose Hazuka who scored 12 points and Becca Schwartz who scored 8 points.
St. Mary’s hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Cathedral plays at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

WABASSO — Wabasso defeated Sleepy Eye in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game on Thursday.
Wabasso was led by Jenna Frank’s 17 points and Madi Guetter’s 13 points.
Madi Heiderscheidt had 24 points and seven steals for the Indians and Sarah Ibarra had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Brianna Polesky scored 13 points.
Sleepy Eye is now 2-1 on the year and plays at Hopkins against Maranatha Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Wabasso is 1-0 and plays at MVL on Tuesday.

BLUE EARTH — Blue Earth Area defeated New Ulm 56-52 in a Big South Conference girls’ basketball game on Thursday.
Joey Batt led the Eagles with 24 points. Hannah Osborne scored 14 for New Ulm (1-1).

MADELIA — St. Clair crushed Madelia in a Valley Conference girls’ basketball game on Thursday.
Emily Stevensen scored 8 points to lead Madelia and Lilly Maul scored 7 points.

WABASSO — Wabasso/Red Rock Central won a pair of wrestling matches on Thursday.
The Bobcats defeated St. Clair 68-6 in the first match and then defeated BOLD 48-24 in the second match.
Jared Schroepfer picked up a 3-2 decision at 160 and a fall at 170 for the Bobcats.
Boys’ hockey
Hutchinson 3, New Ulm 1
HUTCHINSON–Hutchinson defeated New Ulm 3-1 on Thursday in a nonconference boys’ hockey game.
New Ulm’s goalie, Jack Raymond, had 33 saves. New Ulm’s goal was scored by Sam Berg.
New Ulm plays at Mound-Westonka/Watertown-Mayer on Saturday at 3 p.m.
