NEW ULM — Alex Nagel recorded a natural hat trick and Steel goalie Ryan Kenny stopped 23 of 25 Breezy Point shots as the New Ulm Steel won their fourth straight game with a 6-2 pounding of the North Stars Friday night at the New Ulm Civic Center in an NA3HL game.

Tom Reilly, Jimmy Miller and Kirk Coppock each scored goals as New Ulm outshot Breezy Point 45-36.

It was also a game where Luke Kreuser became the All-Time leading point scorer for the Steel when he assisted on Smith’s goal.

Kirk Coppock and Alex Moser each had two assists with Brandon Mehlhop, Dylan Boysen, Bayler Kraus, Jack Parks, Nagel, Kreuser, Sam Storlie and Kenny adding assists.

“Offensively, we are rolling now,” Steel coach Andrew Kolb said. “We have scored 18 goals in our last three games. Offense comes when we work hard — skating hard and battling in the corners.”

Nagel set the stage for his natural hat trick — three consecutive goals – when he beat Breezy Point goalie Bronson Moore at the 18:46 mark.

Nagel netted his second goal at the 2:35 mark of the second period for a 2-0 lead before getting his natural hat trick at the 19:35 mark for a 3-0 lead.

“I may have had (natural hat trick) in high school.” he said. “I felt like my whole line was working good and I got some looks. Coach talked about walking the lanes from out in the corner and it worked.”

Jimmy Miller’s goal at the 3:14 mark of the third period made it 4-0 before Koppock recorded his 12th goal of the year for a 5-0 lead.

Breezy cut the lead to 5-1 before Reilly put the sixth goal on the board for the Steel at the 17:20 mark.

“We found some lines that are working,” Nagel said. “We are buying in and listening to our coach a lot more. We need to keep it going tonight in Breezy.”

The Steel face off against the North Stars at 7:30 in Breezy Point.
