Prep roundup: New Ulm tennis team falls to New Prague 5-2 in playoffs, St. James sweeps New Ulm in volleyball

New Prague 5, New Ulm 2

NEW PRAGUE — New Prague defeated New Ulm in the girls’ tennis playoffs on Tuesday.

In singles action, Emma Maudal won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Jane Arnoldt and Abbey Frauenholtz won 6-4, 0-6, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles.

At No. 2 singles, Sara Guymon lost 6-1, 6-1 and Abby Heitala lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Makiah Otto lost 7-5, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

In doubles, Breanna Widmer and Shelby Haseman lost 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles and Kaila Brudelie and Bethany Janssen lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Prep volleyball

St. James Area 3, New Ulm 0

ST. JAMES — Saint James Area defeated New Ulm 25-13, 25-16, 25-20 on Tuesday in a nonconference volleyball game.

New Ulm was led by Sarah Longtin who had 15 digs. Also for New Ulm, Izzie Wolkow had seven set assists, Madeline Gag had three kills and six blocks, and Ashlyn Donner had four kills.

New Ulm hosts Waseca at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

BLHS 3, Springfield 2

SPRINGFIELD — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Springfield 21-25, 25-20, 24-26, 25-19, 25-12 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball game.

Springfield was led by Brandi Platz who had 30 digs and six kills. Also for Springfield, Arynzi Rabb had four blocks and 21 set assists, Katelyn Hauth had four blocks, Katelyn Hauth and Katelynn Clemon both had six kills, and Brittany Rogotske had 51 digs.

Springfield (0-19, 0-7) plays at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 7 p.m. on Thursday. BLHS hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

CM/C 3, MVL 2

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain/Comfrey defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 21-25, 25-9, 17-25, 25-12, 15-1 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball game.

CM/C was led by Makenzie Kerkhoff who had 26 kills, 12 digs, four blocks, and two ace serves. Also for CM/C, Erica Bock had 11 kills and 10 digs, Natalie Lux had nine digs and eight kills, Taylor Block had two kills, two blocks and three aces serves, Abby Jemmings had 45 set assists, 15 digs and three kills, and Kylie Wersal had 33 digs.

Maddie Pearson had 21 set assists and Mackenzie Helget had 15 set assists and 11 digs. Mara Weisensel had 13 kills and four blocks and Lauren Paulsen had eight kills and four blocks. Haley Birkholz had eight kills and 28 digs and Hannah Marzinske had 20 digs.

CM/C plays at the SMSU tournament on Friday. MVL (7-8, 2-3) hosts Sleepy Eye at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Sleepy Eye 3, LP/HT 0

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye defeated Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity 25-22, 25-22, 25-14 in nonconference volleyball.

Madi Heiderscheidt had 14 kills and seven digs and Cassidy Hoffmann had 22 set assists and seven aces.

Jordan 3, Sibley East 0

ARLINGTON — Jordan defeated Sibley East 25-18, 25-21, 25-19 in a nonconference volleyball match on Tuesday.

For Sibley East, Rachel Rettman had nine kills, five blocks and three digs. Madi Krentz had seven kills and Morgan Stearns had six kills, three digs, and 13 set assists. Taylor Brinkman had 15 set assists, five kills.

Boys’ soccer

Marshall 2, New Ulm 0

MARSHALL — Marshall defeated New Ulm in Big South Conference boys’ soccer on Tuesday.

Matthew Janke had 23 saves for the Eagles.

New Ulm is at Mankato Loyola on Thursday.
