Eagles battle Waseca to scoreless tie

By Jeremy Behnke Journal Sports Editor NEW ULM — In a defensive match filled with missed opportunities on both sides, New Ulm and Waseca battled to a 0-0 overtime tie at New Ulm High School on Tuesday in Big South Conference boys’ soccer action. The Eagles and Bluejays had a few chances offensively in the first half but neither was able to take advantage of a potential breakaway. New Ulm outshot Waseca 3-1 in the first half. The scoring drought for both teams continued in the second half and both teams had a few chances late in the half. New Ulm had back-to-back scoring chances at about the 14-minute mark, with both shots sailing wide left. Waseca nearly scored a couple of times also, but passing errors stalled both chances for the Bluejays. Matthew Janke had seven saves for New Ulm. New Ulm (2-0-2) resumes action when it travels to St. Peter at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday for a Big South match.
