Stark tops Sleepy Eye 8-3

STARK — Joey Wahl belted two home runs to lead Stark past Sleepy Eye 8-3 on Saturday in the Region 2C amateur baseball playoffs.

Dusty Magen was hit by a pitch with two out in the second inning. Wahl homered to left field to give Stark an early 2-0 advantage.

In the third inning, Sean Mathiowetz reached on an error. He scored on Adam Sellner’s center fiield double for Stark’s third run.

The Longhorns got four hits which resulted in three runs in the fourth inning. Wahl drew a walk. He scored on a Tim Seifert single. Jake Mangen reached on a single and he later scored on Brandon Helget’s double. He would score on Sellner’s single for a 7-0 lead.

Carter Brinkman walked to start the eighth inning. He scored when Joey Walter grounded out to give Sleepy Eye its first run. Alex Woitas scored on an error making it 7-2 Stark.

Stark got its final run on Wahl’s second home run which was a leadoff shot over the left field fence.

Andrew Woitas hit a lead-off single in the top of the ninth. He advanced to second on a walk by Matt Mielke and he went to third on a single by Derek Nachreiner. Andrew Woitas later scored Sleepy Eye’s last run on a ground out.

Stark is at Hanska on Sunday and Sleepy Eye hosts Lamberton on Sunday.
