Minnetonka crushes Searles Bullheads 10-0

The Searles Bullheads 35-and-over baseball team lost 10-0 in five innings to the Minnetonka Lakers on Sunday.

The Bullheads, who had not played for several weeks because of postponements, struggled especially on the mound. Four Searles pitchers gave up nine walks and two hit batsmen.

Eight of those runners ended up scoring. Minnetonka (10-2) scored three runs in the first inning, two in the fourth and five in the fifth.

Searles (5-3) threatened in the first inning by loading the bases on a single by Corey Schaefer and two hit batters, but was unable to score.

The only other serious threat by the Bullheads came in the fifth. Nate Gusso doubled down the left field line and moved to third on Craig Schmitz’s hit with two outs to keep the Bullheads’ hopes alive before the final out. Pat Portner and Jeremy Drexler had the other two Searles hits.

Searles will resume play at 8 p.m. Friday, when it hosts Le Center. The final regular-season makeup game will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 against St. Louis Park.
