NEW ULM ­– With an impressive 118 score, Team 2, consisting of Tom Steinbach, Kyle Duxbury, Leon Kettner, Rollo Lentz and Jeff Schone, took first place at the 11th annual B&L Golf Classic on Monday at the New Ulm Country Club.

Team 2’s 118 score meant that they finished with a 24-under.

Jeff Schone said that although Steinbach led the team, he felt that everyone played their role perfectly, which allowed them to pick up the win.

“It was kind of a magical day because all five of the players on our team hit the ball well,” Schone said. “There were no let-ups. There were no hiccups. Every hole we were on the green and in the hole and I think we gained strokes every hole but one.”

Schone said that even with the solid score, he felt that his squad could have finished three to four strokes lower yet. That being said, Schone said that there was nothing really to complain about on the sunny day.

“Weather was perfect,” Schone said. “There was not a lot of breeze, but it was warm enough to keep you loose and it was just wonderful.”

Kettner said that he always has fun at the tournament and this year was no different.

“I always have fun at the B&L Tournament,” Kettner said. “It’s the best damn bar tournament in Minnesota.”

Schone added that he felt the B&L Golf Classic was the most enjoyable tournament of the year with plenty of camaraderie and good times.

Team 8, comprised of Pete Guggisberg, Bob Wurtzberger, Nate Voges, Jim Pettis and Tony Hudson, took second at the event with a 122 score.
