NEW ULM — Sleepy Eye Post 800 handled Dassel in a 7-0 shutout on Friday night at Johnson Park.

With the victory, Sleepy Eye will meet the winner of Glencoe vs. Dassel at 7 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Park.

Post 800 improved on Thursday’s 11 men left on base. This time they cut the runners left on down to seven on 13 hits.

“When we’re hitting the ball and putting it in play — like I said yesterday — good things happen,” Post 800 coach Brandon Streich said. “Today we took advantage of our opportunities rather than kind of let them seep through the cracks. We went out and got them, so I’m really happy for that.”

Post 800 was led by Henry Scheitel, who went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Nick Labat, who was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and a double. Also for Post 800, Kyle Domeier was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, while Jace Marotz went 1 for 2 with three RBIs.

Post 800 got its first two runs in a five-hit third inning after a Marotz sac-fly and a Scheitel RBI single. The lead was extended to 5-0 in the fifth, led again by RBIs from Marotz and Scheitel.

Sleepy Eye started the sixth inning with three singles in a row off the bats of Nathan Walter, Domeier and Labat. Walter would scamper home on an infield fly out that wasn’t caught, while Domeier scored to make it 7-0 after a Marotz sac-fly to left.

Scheitel was more than just a force at the plate during the game for Post 800. He also pitched a four-hit shutout, while striking out six. He went the distance on the mound.

“Henry went out there and really kept his pitch count low too and just threw strikes,” Streich said. “And he let his defense play for him. That’s huge as a pitcher when you’re able to trust your defense and our defense made plays too.”
