Terry Helget to be inducted into Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame
SLEEPY EYE — Terry Helget is being inducted into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the 2017 class.
Helget, an alumnus of New Ulm Cathedral High School who went on to play baseball at the University of St. Thomas, is being inducted for his involvement in amateur baseball as a player, coach, manager, umpire, league officer and board member.
As a player for the Essig Bluejays of the Tomahawk East League, Helget batted .311 with 902 hits in 800 career games in 28 seasons (1988-2015). In 904 innings pitched, Helget amassed 871 strikeouts and had a 2.96 career ERA.
As an umpire, Helget has worked numerous levels of baseball from high school to Division I in college.
Helget currently serves as the secretary and treasurer for the Tomahawk East League and umpires at the amateur baseball level as well.
