Springfield ninth-grade boys runners-up in Pacesetter Youth Basketball Championships

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield ninth-grade boys were runners-up in their division of the Pacesetter Minnesota Youth Basketball State Championships on Sunday.

The top two teams at the state tournament qualify for the Pacesetter Great Four-State Championships on July 29-30.

Springfield advanced to finals by defeating Plainview-Elgin-Millville 36-27 and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 32-29. In the championship game, they lost another close game, to Bemidji 32-27. The Tigers qualified for state by winning Region 5 on April 9.

Springfield players are Henry Scheitel, Mitchell Buerkle, Decker Scheffler, Mason Kretsch, Dylan Rubey, Ivan Hovland, Nolan Hovland, Noah Richert and Curtis Tauer.

Pacesetter Sports, based in Paynesville, conducts basketball and volleyball camps in a five-state area and hosts basketball tournaments for grades 4 through 9.
