All-Journal girls’ golf: Wersal, Tigers lead All-Journal girls’ golf team

Springfield

Wersal capped her standout career with a state title, shooting a 155 at the Class A State Tournament over two days. The 2016 All-Journal Girls’ Golfer of the Year averaged a 41.9 over nine holes this year and was the Player of the Year in the Tomahawk Conference.

She finished her career with four state appearances and led the Tigers to a third-place finish at the state tournament this year.

Jena Roiger, sr.,

Springfield

Roiger averaged a 46.3 this past season over nine holes and helped lead the Tigers to their third-straight state tournament, where they finished third. She finished tied for 13th overall at the Class A state meet with a two-day total of 174 and was a big reason for the Tigers’ success the past three seasons.

Makenna Winkelmann, jr., Springfield

Winkelmann averaged a 46.1 over the season and was named all-conference. She helped the Tigers to the Class A state tournament and she finished tied for 35th with a 187. She will be back next year as the Tigers aim for another state meet.

Mackenzie Lothert, so., Springfield

Lothert averaged a 47 this past year and was second at the Section 2A meet individually. The sophomore finished tied for 32nd with a 186 at the state meet.

Abbey Frauenholtz, so., New Ulm

Frauenholtz qualified for the state tournament this year, shooting a 187 to finish tied for 46th. She was All-Conference and finished third overall at the conference tournament. The team captain averaged 45.1 over nine holes and was medalist in six events this season.

Izzie Wolkow, so.,

New Ulm

Wolkow had an average of 51.1 this season and missed all-conference by two spots in the Big South. She shot a 92 at Day 1 of Sections to qualify for Day 2 and was a team captain for the Eagles.

Erica Bock, jr.,

Cedar Mountain

Bock finished 58th at the state tournament with a two-day score of 200. She averaged a 51 over nine holes this year and was eighth in the conference this past year.

Kayla Goblirsch, 7th grade, Cathedral

Just a seventh-grader, Goblirsch exceeded all expectations in her first year of varsity action and qualified for the state tournament. She finished 38th overall with a score of 188 and her average was 48 for nine holes this year. She was medalist in 11 of Cathedral’s 12 regular season meets.
